Anxiety symptoms may differ from one anxiety disorder to the next, but many of them cross over. Due to the fact that a good number of the symptoms can be the same among the several different anxiety disorders that exist, this can make it difficult to determine what specific disorder a person may be suffering from, or if they have more than one condition linked to anxiety.

That being said, it is important that you know what signs and anxiety symptoms indicate a disorder, so you know the difference between a normal attack of anxiety and a mental health condition that should be addressed and treated by a medical professional.

Anxiety symptoms affect a person both physically and mentally. Examples of some physical symptoms include: sweating, rapid and pounding heartbeat, fatigue, insomnia, upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, frequent need to urinate, dizziness, headaches, twitches or tremors, muscle tension, and shortness of breath.

On the other hand, typical emotional symptoms that may result could include, but are not limited to: irritability, difficulty concentrating, restlessness, feelings of dread, constant worry, paranoia, always looking for signs of danger, feeling tense, feeling as if your mind has gone blank, and expecting the worst.

While there are both emotional and physical anxiety symptoms that a person can experience, there is one primary symptom common to all of the six main anxiety disorders. This symptom is characterized by the constant fear or worry in circumstances where the average person would not feel vulnerable.

Have you ever had an anxiety attack? Most people will experience at least one of these attacks in their lifetime, even though many are not aware that this is what has occurred. An attack often includes a combination of some of the following symptoms: Sudden overwhelming panic, feeling like you’re losing your mind, chest pain or heart palpitations, feeling like you’ll pass out, shaking or trembling, hyperventilation, stomach cramps, nausea, difficulty breathing or feeling like you’re choking, feeling detached, hot flashes, and chills.

Keep in mind, many people who suffer from anxiety can experience symptoms that mirror other illnesses and serious medical conditions. Furthermore, not everyone suffers the same signs or symptoms. Therefore, it is important that if you are encountering any of these above mentioned anxiety symptoms on a regular basis, you consult with your primary care physician to obtain a proper diagnosis and find out if it is anxiety or something else causing your struggles.
